Musical Theatre Camp at St. Martin's

The goal of the Musical Theatre Camp at St. Martin's is to provide an educational, fun-filled atmosphere for students and friends of the SMES community to have the opportunity to foster individual and collective artistic growth within the major disciplines of performing arts in a safe, creative and nurturing environment.


Camp Program and Schedule
Students will receive instruction in acting, choreography, and singing, in addition to theatrical design and management. Participants will be cast in a variety of scenes from musical theatre, culminating in a final performance, on the last day of camp, which will allow the students to exercise their new skills in a live performance. 
 
                     
9:00 am-4:00 pm (lunch break 12-1 pm)
Rising 2nd-8th Graders
Max number of students: 25

Students will be broken up into 2 performance groups: Rising 2nd-4th Graders and Rising 5th-8th Graders
 

Tuition 
$250 per week. In addition, parents must pay a non-refundable registration fee of $50 per child per week of camp total camp fees due with registration form.

Fee includes a camp T-shirt and a performance DVD  
The performance DVD will be available 6 weeks after the final performance and will be sent to the student’s home.

Important instructions for all campers, please read carefully:
·  Campers will need to bring their own sack lunch each day.
With the singing and physical activity you will be involved in, we also recommend that you have a water bottle.
·  When working in the St. Martin’s gym, on stage, no food or drink is allowed. All refreshments must be kept outside of the gym.
· Please come in clothes and shoes that are easy for you to move in.
· Please bring a small notebook for your notes and special directions from the instructors.
·  Please be on time, and plan to stay for the entire camp session, everyday. You are a part of a collaborative process and it is important for you be present and on time.

Acting, Directing, Costuming and Props Design

Ms. Heidi Cline
Heidi Cline is the Director of Speech and Drama for St. Martin’s and has been in residence there for the past six years after teaching at the collegiate level for 17 years. Heidi holds a BFA in acting and directing from the University of Southern Mississippi and an MFA in directing from Florida State University. She has worked with most of the city’s professional theatre companies including the Alliance, Georgia Shakespeare, Theatre in the Square, Actor’s Express, and Soul-stice Repertory Ensemble. 
Regionally, she has worked with the Hippodrome State Theatre and the Oasis Theatre in Florida, Lagrange Lyric Theatre, and the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. She has been nominated for three Suzi Awards, Atlanta’s professional theatrical awards, for musicals in the last three years.

Acting, Choreography, Stage and House Management

Mr. Jeffrey McKerley
Jeff has been active in the Atlanta theatrical community for the past 22 years as an award-winning actor, singer, dancer, director, and choreographer and is excited to be sharing his love of theatre with SMES students and friends. 
Currently, Jeff can be seen in "The Mystery of Irma Vep" at the New American Shakespeare Tavern. Most recently, Jeff directed and choreographed JEKYLL & HYDE for DramaTech. At SMES, Jeff has been involved with BEAUTY & THE BEAST, Jr.; MULAN, Jr.; The Shakespeare Workshop, and the World Storytelling Celebration. 
Professionally, Jeff had the honor of receiving two 2007 Suzi Bass Awards. On an educational level, Jeff has had the privilege of working with Shiloh High School, Westminster, Georgia Perimeter College  Georgia College and State University, Georgia Tech and many others. Jeff studied Theatre Arts at Jacksonville State University in Alabama.

Musical Direction, Set, Lighting and Sound Design

Mr. Spencer Stephens
Spencer has been the Drama Assistant / Technical Director of Speech & Drama for St. Martin’s  for the past 3 years. He has also been a full-time actor/singer/ puppeteer in the Atlanta theatre community for the past eight years and has performed in shows all over metro Atlanta. Spencer has been a resident puppeteer at the Center for Puppetry Arts for six years and he is a five-year member of the Dad’s Garage Improv Family. Spencer was nominated for a 2007 Suzi Bass Award for his performance as Toad in “A Year With Frog and Toad” with Synchronicity Performance Group. And in 2008, he received the Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Award for his performance as Man in “Fix Me So I Can Stand." 
In 2008, Spencer, along with his writing partner, Robin Seidman, won the National Children’s Theatre Festival at Actor’s Playhouse in Coral Gables, FL. for their musical “Paint!: Marc Chagall’s Colorful Musical Adventure."
