Academic Competitions
Math Counts
High-achieving math students are eligible to participate in this group, which meets weekly to practice for the annual Math Counts competition at Georgia Tech each spring.
Math League Competition
Students in 4th and 5th grades have an opportunity to compete in math contests given in statewide and national competitions. Students learn to apply math skills to different situations throughout the school year by taking these practice tests, which provide excellent practice for the SAT, ACT and school math competitions. The competition is held in mid-April.
Geography Bee
The National Georgraphic Geography Bee is held nationwide each year between November and January. Participating schools hold their own bees, resulting in a school champion and runner-up. The champion takes a written test, which is sent to the state to be scored. The top 100 scorers from the state win the chance to participate in the state bee.
Spelling Bee
The winner and runner-up of our Middle School Spelling Bee represent St. Martin’s at the GISA-area bee. Winners then go to the GISA Finals in Macon, the GAE/Atlanta Daily World State Final in Atlanta, and finally the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Duke University Talent Identification Program
The Duke TIP Program is a talent search that identifies academically talented 7th graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending Elementary or early Middle School. Candidates take the SAT/ACT, which then makes them eligible to participate in unique educational opportunities.
