Uniforms for 09-10 School Year

Many of you have heard hallway tales of changes to the SMES uniform for school year 2009-2010. Over the years, there have been changes to the uniform to accommodate fashion trends, requests from students and parents, and new articles of clothing that we thought might work for you. Through all of these changes, our uniform policy has become complicated and at times, hard to understand. For these reasons, the principals and I decided upon some modifications to make the uniform what it was intended to be and to make things simpler for all of us at home and at school.
Please note that uniform items for the 09-10 School Year will be imprinted with the 50th Anniversary logo. Once purchased, these items may continue to be worn after the anniversary year ends, sold at used uniform sales and passed to younger siblings. Items with the regular SMES logo (that follow the new Uniform Policy) may be worn in 09-10 as well, but 09-10 will be the only year that anniversary items will be sold. Please enjoy celebrating our 50th anniversary!

Below you will find the essentials: what will now be allowed and what will no longer be allowed. We look forward to an exciting 50th year at St. Martin’s Episcopal School and appreciate your support of this modified policy.

Gains:
o Half or full zip navy SMES fleece can be worn indoors or out
o Oxford cloth shirt or polo shirt (long sleeve or short sleeve) can be worn interchangeably
o SMES navy v-neck sweater vest will be an indoor option
o SMES navy sweater: crew or v-neck cardigan or pullover can be worn indoors or out
Losses:
o Fashion knit polo for girls no longer an option
o ¾ over blouse for girls no longer an option
o Hoodies no longer an option
o White PE sweatshirt no longer an option
Please note that there are shoe options. Shoe styles not listed will not be permitted. Acceptable shoe styles are:
Girls:
o saddle oxfords (black/white)
o Mary Janes (navy or black)
o Black, brown, or tan Buc
o Black, brown, or tan Merrell style
o Leather boat shoe
Boys:
o Black, brown or tan Buc
o Black, brown or tan Merrell style
o Leather boat shoe
Because sock styles are also an issue, the new rule will require socks to begin above the ankle and below the knee.
